The PTA organised a fantastic Christmas Fair at the beginning of the month. There was plenty to see and do for all ages including a range of stalls from local buisnesses, face painting, christmas crafts and of course, a visit from the man in red! Not only did they organise all of that but there were also lots of different raffles with a whole host of prizes up for grabs. With the help of Mrs Rawlinson, we were entertained by the children singing carols around the Christmas tree. 

It was a brilliant evening which raised a massive £1007.65!! A huge well done to the PTA, you did a wonderful job.

We held the sposored bounce on Friday 15th June.  Children from across the school had the chance to bounce for 5 minutes and have fun, whilst raising money at the same time!

Meeting held today following on from the SOS letter sent out to all parents in September explaining the current situation the PTA has found its self in, four new parents attended the meeting for which we were grateful, but still felt this was a disappointing turnout. One parent did respond via e mail offering help and requested to be added to our e mail list. It needs to be reiterated again to parents that there are many ways in which they can be involved without having to attend meetings, contact details can be left with the school office or directly to the PTA.
A coffee morning was discussed as a last attempt to try and get across to parents how their support is desperately needed ALL Parents/Carers & Siblings welcome.
Date for coffee morning agreed as: - Monday 29th October 9am - School Atrium Action: JWS – To put date of coffee morning on school newsletter and arrange to have minutes from PTA meetings issued alongside school newsletter and published on school website. Action: SN – Arrange Coffee / Tea, Biscuits etc.
It would be great to have as many members as possible, please let Sarah know if you can make it.

  • Portman Hall – 24th March, doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start.
  • Bar available – helpers needed, also sale of soft and hot drinks and snacks.

AGM – 4th October 2017

A really good year, great team, lots of support from the committee. More thanks later.

Tried a few new events this year which worked well – have learnt from one or two which not so well supported.  All in all a very good year as raised £3,942.47 (over £700 more than previous year).  See Finance Record Nik has prepared showing summary of events and expenses.

Treasure Hunt/BBQ – first time. Idea and organised by Kerry.  V successful lots of families took part. Raising over £140.00. Repeat the event.

Spooky Disco – Whole school event. More children attended than ever before. Raised £97.85

Adult Halloween Disco – A really brilliant evening, could have been better supported. Around 40 people. Raised £353.26. A lot of hard work with not much reward.

Christmas Fair – Sarah organised majority of event. Lots of stalls, crafts for children, mulled wine, mince pies.  Children singing. Incredible raffle. Lots from the village attended. Really successful. Raised £1007.65.  Possibly biannually as sheer amount of work involved.

Christmas Movie Night- Amanda and Sarah’s idea. Children loved coming in pj’s. Very little to organise, minimal outgoings. Raised £122.00.

Christmas Party – Whole school event. Jamie Jigsaw entertainment. Went down well. Father Christmas gifts – books. Becky organised buying factual books. Children loved.  Whole school party lunch, including teachers. 6 PTA members helped on the day. Lots of work but well worth it. Cost £582.22.

Winter Wiggle – A second year of running it for Kerry, and Amanda helping. Enormous thank you. After school club with show at end. Raised £282.00.

Easter Competition – Colour in an egg or basket. So many entries. Lovely display in entrance hall. Easter eggs awarded to boy and girl in each year group. Raised £7.50.  Not intended as fund raiser, just a bit of fun for the children. Considering not charging for future competitions.

Quiz Night – Organised by Becky and Julie, Martin as Quiz Master. Very successful event. Lots attended from school and village and out of village. Portman Hall full. Raffle. Bar. £100 prize donated from Acorn Builders. Raised £348.44.  Repeating this term.

Easter Disco – Dave supplied disco for £30. V reasonable. Raised £53.80. Repeating this November for Halloween Disco.

Pub night/Band night (80’s disco) – Originally organised as 80’s disco at Portman Hall, Sarah N and Rachel O. Not enough ticket sales. Clashed with many events, so moved band to the Pub who was hosting leaving event for landlords. Bucket whip round for PTA – Martin raised £122,41. Not repeating adult disco this year. Lots of organisation and last 2 been cancelled.

Summer Fete – Sarah N huge amounts of organisation. Car boot, amazing raffle prizes, fire engine, BBQ, scones made by Food Links …..great weather!  A big success on the field. Raised £929.15. Slightly down on year before. Lots from village came. Clashed with quite a few other events. Considering having May or September next year. Also, wondering if to make ‘village event’ by asking village clubs/groups to help out.

Leavers’ Disco – Gave year 6 opportunity to choose leavers event. Karaoke disco decided. Unfortunately DJ didn’t turn up. Lots attended. Saved by Simon/Kerry lending amp and lights. Free event. Cost £22.50 in refreshments and take home sweets.  Next year organise whole school family event. Possibly Barn Dance which used to be held for leavers at old school.

Massive thank you to Sarah N.  Always there if I need advice, coming up with brilliant ideas, creating the posters (thank you Nev), updating Facebook etc. Organising the Christmas and Summer Fair and raffles.

Thank you to Jane who is always on the end of the phone or happy to answer questions or emails and always so supportive of what we are doing as a committee.

We have a really fantastic, keen and committed group of members. It should be another great year.

Carols in the Atrium with xmas tree sales Friday 1st December

Children to sing 5-6 carols in atrium with Val on piano, mince pies and mulled wine for donations. Outside – sales of fresh xmas trees, also a free delivery and collection option. PTA to receive £5 per tree sale.

Decorated jam jar sales (Decorating workshop during the school day – date tbc) – to be sold in the atrium during carols.

Xmas tree sales also Saturday 2nd December at school – open to all public.

Volunteers needed.

Skittles for a turkey – date TBC

Individual to pay for three balls, record of the scores and the top 10 scorers to ‘play off’ for the turkey. To take place at the old Ox, winner to receive voucher for a turkey.


Suggestion of a xmas card competition, send this out in book bags with deadline, prizes to be given out in school. Winning card to have a small amount printed with envelopes.

Adult Disco

  • Suggestion from Sarah that a murder mystery night may work well, targeting people from out of the village also. This is aimed to take place October 2018 – SN to contact Michael and Caroline about possible use of Shillingstone house as location. Shamdram and Kay Farrell have volunteered to write and cast.
  • Rachel suggested working alongside Portman Hall, PTA helping/contributing to their events and PTA taking a profit share.

Bags 2 School

  • £92 raised, next bags2school is Thursday 16th November. Bags to go home with families over October half term

Summer Fair

  • £95 cheque needed to pay bouncy castle – Action NG. Alongside bouncy castle inflatable basketball hoop game.
  • Tony to get signs out of shed/garage and Jo to sign write.
  • Ice cream van is booked – 20% of profit given to PTA.
  • Becky has left over ice cream cones – suggestion to save for Halloween for crafts.
  • DAYS OUT RAFFLE – these all vary in price, list of prizes available to be advertised. All prizes in bucket and each winner pick one out to make it fair.
  • Hay bales needed to cordon off coconut shy – Action SN to contact Morgan Smith/Paul Burton, also Jill Burton for the hook a ducks. Keep tin can alley for children and coconut shy for adults.
  • Water and Wine bottles need collecting from Richard Watts and wrapped – Action Becky and Rachel
  • Tombola - sweets and wine together.
  • Use up all crafts in the garage instead of buying in new – Year six to run this stall?
  • Sarah suggested the use of the cash card so children aren’t handling money, £1 and 50p uses.
  • Diane at Maypole has put a donation of refreshments to Sarah.
  • Cream tea – served at £2.50-£3.00 – Action DC to get prices.
  • Cake sale – villagers and parents to donate, advertise this on Facebook.
  • Lucky Cups – competition, judge them on day and then sell on for £1. Send out on the 21st and get back by the 28th to be judged on the 30th. A prize per year group.
  • Decision was made for school to be in charge of tuc shop, lucky cups and sweets in the jar.
  • BBQ – Nev and Nick, Mato’s and Morrisons order – Action BD.
  • Car boot entry from 11am until 11.45am.
  • Reminder: second hand uniform needs going through.
  • Action – SN & RO to visit Kay Farrell to look at toys she has and costings.
  • Put together a list for volunteers, advertise on fb page for parents and give to teachers. Action – SN/RO

Rachel to question the timings of this with JWS, as many children and parent helpers will be unable to attend due to other after school activies. Debby to purchase hot chocolate and biscuits for this event for approx. 50-60.

Quiz Night

To be held on 8th April. Adults only. Awaiting confirmation of venue as worked well in school hall last time but the bench seating was a problem. Alcohol to be served at this event as is a good earner. Sarah To include in the Parish Mag write up. Maybe an ad in the BMV to invite others. Tickets to be sold prior and to include supper. Fish and chips worked well last time. Becky to confirm details of what she would like to do.

Kids School Disco

Rachel to approach Gary Ridout about supplying the disco. Cost for the discos are an issue. Does anyone know of a cheaper disco? Halloween disco was well supported but we feel this was due to the Theme. It worked well having the whole school at the same time and we think we should continue this. Rachel to look into other discos but it looks

like getting Gary on side and booking a few dates in advance is the best option. It was discussed we theme further discos but agreed that the Halloween disco should be the only one themed. Kerry had an idea about an Easter egg hunt being coloured straws the children collect and receive an egg at the end, stopping some children collecting more than others.. The activities around the hall worked well at the Halloween disco especially with the younger children, maybe a few activities along this line could be done ie pin the fluffy tail on the bunny??

Easter Bonnet/design an egg competition

It was decided that the templates/instructions are to be sent out on Wednesday 15th March. This will include details of how much? (50p per item) return date, which will be 30th March and judging date, 31st March and then announced in the end of week assembly. Reminder for the competition to be added to the newsletter on the 29th March.

School t-towels/bags

It was decided that we would leave this until September and do a bag-for-life for selling in the run up to Christmas.

Adult Disco 13th May

As the 80's theme has already been done, an 80's/90's theme was agreed for this year’s adult disco.

Rachel to confirm hall, disco and food for this event. seating to be placed around the outside of the hall with a few tables. Sarah to add this to the parish mag write up to

encourage others from the village. Julie to speak to Richard about playing, if unavailable to approach Alfie’s Dad.

Sarah to include quiz night/disco and summer fayre dates in parish mag write up. Suggested date for the summer fayre 1st July. Rachel to confirm this with Mrs Whitehouse-sharpe. This event will include the grand opening of the Spiritual Garden and hopefully bring in the sponsors and villagers to the school.

Date for the Christmas fair agreed 1st December.

Next meeting 16th March at the Old Ox Inn 1945hrs.





Summer Fair 

The summer fair, which took place on Saturday 1st July, was a fantastic day with plenty of entertainment, fabulous food and sunshine. We held it on the top field this year which meant the stalls, car boot, BBQ and even a fire engine could be all in one area. 

A special thanks to Sarah Netherway, whose meticulous planning over the last four months meant it all went incredibly smoothly and everyone had a great time. 

Thank you for all the tombola prises which were donated on the non-school uniform day, and to everyone who brought in beautifully decorated cakes. It was a real team effort from setting up the gazebo's, manning the stands and packing everything away at the end, THANK YOU everyone who was involved with this.

PLEASE remember to support the school in these events. It is the children who benefit directly from the money the PTA raises - from new equipment, books, outings, parties and many other important aspects of school life.
