A wide range of after school clubs are offered to give pupils the opportunity to try new activities or gain more experience in aspects of the curriculum that they especially enjoy. The clubs start at 3.15pm and run for one hour. Clubs are run predominantly by staff members of the school. Here are some of the clubs available:
We have a personalised curriculum, where all children have individual learning targets, to help them progress. The creative curriculum encourages children to ask questions and develop learning enquiry skills. Our teaching and learning is based around a class creative topic, which is fun and engaging. Our creative curriculum offers special days and weeks which are planned throughout the year to enrich the curriculum, e.g. Art weeks, science days and storytelling days. Children are offered first hand experiences through educational visits, e.g. an outdoor education week in Weymouth. Visitors are welcomed in school to share expertise, such as artists and sports coaches.
Homework is always linked to the work being carried out in the classroom and allows children to consolidate and reinforce skills and knowledge being taught in school. Regular homework is set within each class and a timetable is always sent home to parents.
It is recommneded that children have the following allocations of homework:
Parrot Class (Reception) - 5 / 10 minutes per day - Reading (Letter sounds, blends, CVC words), occasional number work.
Kingfisher Class (Year 1 and 2) - 10 / 15 minutes per day - Reading, spellings, occasional number work, occasional assignments linked to other areas of the curriculum.
Falcon Class (Year 3 and 4) - 15 minutes per day - Reading, spellings, weekly numeracy, occasional assignments linked to other areas of the curriculum.
